FIRST SHORT FICTION

Lately I've been hearing a lot about Flash Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Short Stories etc. A few posts ago I mentioned how wings were popping up everywhere in my life. I've also felt like the past couple weeks have been quite the emotional roller coaster ride. And I know some of my writer/blogger friends have been going through similar feelings. I decided to combine all of those Universal recurrences.
Now you're learning about how I write. I notice, I watch, I listen, I analyze (then I over analyze), and usually whilst driving, showering, or making my flavored coffee(belgian Choc toffee today) I create a story in my head. Then I try to type it out on my computer and pray I don't murder it with bad grammar, punctuation errors, and simile over-usage. (I'm sure I did that in the story below--but this was for fun so I'm not stressing over it.)
Yesterday I decided to take my first attempt at a short story. Flash Fiction Online has requirements of 1,000 words or less so I followed their guidelines. Let me know what you think. But be gentle, it's my first attempt.

  4. What a wonderful way to view life. I loved the similes--no overkill. Fit well and help make the story come alive. Bravo!

  5. I really enjoyed reading this story. there were a few "tummy" incidents, Karen knows what I mean by that, and it's a good thing trust me =)
I like the roller coaster image here too.
It's so funny, I was napping yesterday after work and woke up with this strange imagery and thoughts in my head. This rarely happens, but I thought to myself, wow that would make a good but creepy little story. A few minutes later i get an email from Karen explaining her discovery of flash fiction, with this story attached... Just thought that was cool, not sure if there's a connection there or not.
Not that I can ever see myself writing, I'm the musician and the web designer, Karen is most definitely the author ;-)
Although, seeing the work she put's into this blog, she's catching up to me in the web department =)

  6. I just wanted to hop in here and say I LOVED THIS! At first I thought she was just dreaming but then I realized that she was in the place you go to between lives. How very, very amazing. I liked the part about how he “threw in a zigzag zooshy thing.” Isn’t that how it feels sometimes, that someone else is at the controls and every now and then gives you an extra zigzag zooshy thing. Well done.
