PRODUCTIVE PATTERNS

Happy April!

I'd say Happy Spring, but since I live in Florida I feel like it's been spring since February. To all of you Northerners, I hope the weather is getting warmer and more enjoyable.

I've noticed April is my Finish month. As in, I always seem to finish my projects at the end of March/beginning of April. Whenever I query a project, it's always in the spring. I don't know why that is. But I'm pondering this pattern as I polish and shine my query and MS for Queryland.

Does anyone else notice a seasonal pattern with their writing? What are you working on right now?

  1. Me too! I start and finish around this time. And then I finish the new project by the end of summer. And start something new!

  2. I tend to do more writing in the winter, because I don't feel so bad about being indoors all the time. The sunshine makes me feel like I should be outside appreciating the weather. But that might just be me.

  3. Hmm... maybe I finish in the fall and then polish until the first of the year. I always seemed to be querying in late winter/early spring. Interesting!

I am in northern ut where we went through three days of snow grrr. but today is so much sweeter because of going through the storm it is beautiful out there :) I am currently working on a novel and my blog actually. I try to put in a couple hours a day on it reading and commenting it has been a wonderful experience. My Novel is coming along well I just finished chapter 5 which I have been struggling with yeah!!

  5. That's the same for me too! I think winter lends itself very nicely to hibernating with a keyboard.

  6. Glad to hear you're almost done. I don't have any discernable finish time. I'm still hip deep in the fairy tale with lots more to write, but I am enjoying the process.

  7. Yes!! Me too. I just finished my 1st draft the beginning of last week and today I'm starting to revise it. I'm hoping to query (for the first time ever-yikes!) by the beginning of June..we'll see. Good luck!

  8. I'm hoping for better weather in the north as well. Right now I'm trying to polish up my novel for querying and working on outlining another one.

  10. No seasonal patterns in my writing here. But since it rained on me today and got me all wet and soggy as I went about my dayjob business, I think I'll just stick my tongue out at you.

    :P

    There.

    ;)

(Also: good luck with the querying, m'dear! You know how to get hold of me if you want last minute query crits....)

  11. You know I think the last time I was done with a project it was April. But right now I am up to my elbows and nowhere finished with my latest WIP - so I guess I am a little unpredictable this time. Best wishes on your queries. :D

  12. Late winter, early spring sucketh hind teat for writing. Fall and early winter, I tear it up.

    Not sure why that is.

  13. Spring is a time of renewal, so maybe you unconsciously time you stuff so you can start something fresh pretty soon after. Haven't noticed a real pattern in my own writing.

  14. I tend to get recharged about my writing in the spring. I'm also in the process of working on query for my heavily revised MG fantasy. Fingers crossed for us both! ;-)

  15. Can't say I've noticed a pattern, though I think I may write more in the winter because it's too cold to be outside. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  16. Well, my current work is set during a music festival, and here in Aus those occur in summertime. So it's summer. It's weird having a character who loves summer, when I hate it so much :D Of course I don't have her dwelling all that much on how much she loves it... ;)

  17. Spring seems to be a dormant writing period for me because I want to be outside so much. Winter, I write like crazy but spring, I dabble and look out the window and get almost nothing done. Good luck with Queryland.

  18. Congratulations on nearing the end of your project! I wish I was as organized as you, but I don't seem to have a pattern for finishing my projects, unless it's an external deadline. This is something I have to work on.
Good luck and keep us posted on how things go in Queryland! - G

  19. I wish April were my finishing month, but I've got a loooong way to go. Working on a mystery at present. I've only just gotten back into writing and it feels wonderful, exciting, and challenging. So rather than seasonal, I'm trying to make it a daily ritual!

I'm glad to hear your project is near completion. Best of luck on the queries!
