WRITE YOUR HEART OUT

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

I'm heart-deep in revisions lately and loving every minute of it. (If I could just quit my day job and write all day the process would go much more quickly.) Anywho, I'm sorry I haven't been blog hopping as much as I'd like but please know I do miss you and I will be back in the swing of things soon. Until then, Elizabeth Law from Egmont USA (one of my favorite publishers) has something for you to keep in mind...

"Just write your heart out. I promise you that's what matters. I would much, much rather find a great, unusual, distinctive book by a phobic writer covered in oozing sores who lives in a closet than a decent but not amazingly original book by the world’s best promoter. I could sell the former a lot better, too."

~Elizabeth Law, Publisher, Egmont USA

May you ooze greatness today, tomorrow, and forever.

That makes me feel a lot better about being bad at self-promotion!

... and all those sores on my face. You know.

You're lucky you like revisions. For me it's the worst part!

It shows when we have fun writing.

^^ I'm with Tanya! What good is writing if we don't enjoy it? Personally, rewriting is my favorite part--as the characters come into full focus and their motivations leave me with multiple "duh" moments.

Here Here. There's no point in promoting if you don't have anything worth promoting.

We've missed you, but we understand. Pesky day jobs, I wish they would get out of the way!

Ms Law paints a very unglamorous picture of the aspiring writer. But I can't self-promote to save my life. Looks like the closet for me.

Good luck with your revisions. xxx

I'm so happy to hear you're loving the revisions and having a productive time.
That quote is perfect. My apartment may be bigger than a closet but it's where I ooze.

Brilliant. And really the root of it, too. Thanks for this, Karen.

I'll skip the oozing sores part. o.0

But I'm down with the distinctive book part. ☼‿☼

Happy writing and revising and puppy loving!

I totally understand the whole day job and writing have me tied down and have no time for anything else. Glad to hear from you. I love the post. It was just the inspiration that I needed or PUSH that my muse required to get her tushy moving!!

That's a great concept, and I'm glad to hear a publisher say they prefer that!

I'm seriously with you!! If only we could work full time on writing rather than the job!!!

I'm glad to see people in the business still thinking like this.

Happy revising.
