THE CIRCLE OF WRITER LOVE

Natalie Bahm is one my dear friends and one of my most trusted writing partners. Megan and Marie complete my M-N-M superstar trilogy. Yesterday, Nat posted about a writer she beta reads for and congratulated her on signing with the lovely Jessica Sinsheimer of The Sarah Jane Freymann Agency. If you haven't read Nat's post go check it out and and congratulate Trisha Leaver.

I love being introduced to new fabulous writers. I especially love when they become friends.

So, Nat has inspired me to spread some writer love of my own. Most of you probably already know her, but just in case you're out of the loop, I'd like to you to meet the amazing and swoon-worthy Shannon Messenger. I'm a quote lover and this one fits Shannon perfectly...

"Of life's two chief prizes, beauty and truth, I found the first in a loving heart and the second in a laborer's hand. "
Kahlil Gibran

Shannon is beautiful--inside and out. (Beauty)
She writes MG fantasy and she writes it from the heart. I love her concepts, worlds, characters, and style. (Truth)
She is a great friend and is always there if I need her opinion, advice, or encouraging words. (Loving heart)
Also, Shannon isn't afraid to work hard on her craft. Poor thing has been eyebrows deep in revisions for weeks, but she is relentless and dedicated to strengthening the story she loves. (Laborer's hand)

Those are just a few of the many reasons she deserves to be included in the circle of love.

I have no doubt that she'll be announcing a book deal in the very near future. Go over and say hello, follow her fabulous blog, and congratulate her on her recent signing with her dream agent.
Shannon is represented by Laura Rennert of The Andrea Brown Agency.

What about you? Are you meeting other writers and making new friendships? Isn't it awesome to have friends who understand and support our love of books and writing?

  3. This is what I love about the online writing community. Before I started my blog, I agonised on it for weeks because I wasn't sure there was any point in it. I'm so glad I went with my gut and did it. I know that I wouldn't be half the writer I am today if I hadn't 'met' all these amazing people.

    Writers rock!

  4. Yay Shannon! And yay for Tisha too!
This is what I love about other writers -- we celebrate each other's successes. It coul easily be competitive and cutthroat, and yet we choose to embrace each other with open arms.

    Great post!!

    Congrats again ladies!

  5. Awww, congrats to her! I'll pop by.
Yes, yes I'm SOOOOO happy to meet other writers. Seriously, there's such a connection and understanding between us. Fiction writers come from all sorts of backgrounds, all sorts of moral and political viewpoints, yet I think we have some deep thing in common.
I can't put my finger on what it is, but it definitely binds us together and pushes us to root for each other!
Beautiful post. She sounds like a lovely person. :-)

    Congrats, all.

  11. What a great post! I love Shannon, she's just as sweet as you describe. And what a great friend you are ;o)

I love getting out there and meeting new writers. Twitter has especially helped with that! Writers are some of the nicest, supportive people in the world and I count myself lucky to be a part of it ;o)

Congrats to all! Have a great weekend!

  12. I really enjoy meeting other writers. I told Michael that it's so comforting to meet others who share the same passion I have for writing and for books. And of all the communities to which I belong, writers are by far the kindest, most supportive lot. :)

  13. Okay, I'm supposed to be in hiding, but when this popped up in my google alert I had to come out of the dark. Wow. Just. Wow.

I know I should come up with something more articulate than that, but...I'm at a loss. I'm actually a little teary eyed here. And I feel very unworthy of your praise, but thank you so much for the kind words--they're just what I need to get through this last little hurdle of revision. Now I really can't wait to finish so I'll have time to return the favor and beta your draft--then tell the world how amazingly awesome I have no doubt it is.

Thank you so much. And now...*slips back into the shadows*

  20. I love meeting new writers! It's such an awesome experience to have some understand the trials and frustrations and joys you go through. No one knows what it likes to write a first draft and cry directly after without any real reason except for writers, we have this bond where we understand one another and don't judge the process...

I have several amazing writers that I've met over the past 2 months and one just found out she was getting published! I love being able to share the exciting news with everyone!

  21. What a beautiful posting! Yes, there are lovely people out there whom I've met through writing and am so thankful that I have :D

  22. LOVE this post. You perfectly described Shannon! Making new friends is my absolute favorite thing about the writing community.

  23. I have met some of my dearest friends and fellow writers through the computer. And then I got to meet them IRL! For example, Elana Johnson. I've known her for a couple of years. A year ago I met her IRL. Last week we went to a conference together. She is even more amazing IRL than on the computer! Same with L. T. Elliot, Angie Lofthouse, Danyelle Leafty....

  24. Lovely post! Shannon seems like such a wonderful, beautiful person.

I've met so many people online, incredible people like yourself, who've encouraged the writer in me. The online writing community is such a wonderful place to be, really.

  25. For me the best part about making friends with people who are writers is the common bonds. In particular rejection.

I have always struggled mightily with rejection and this is a bad field to be in if that is the case. Having people around who understand how hard writing is and how much rejection is involved has saved me.

  26. I left some love over at my blog for you!! Come check it out when you have a chance :)

  29. Aww, you are such a sweetheart. I'm excited to get to know Shannon better. There aren't very many of us who write MG.

And I CAN'T WAIT to write one of those "guess who got an agent" posts about you. It's going to happen soon.

  30. Oh Karen, this was such a sweet post! I adore my blog friends :) I was feeling pretty upset about my horrible review for my manuscript yesterday, but today I got so many encouraging comments and love that I can't help but feel strong and ready to start again. Blog friends are awesome and thank you for being one of mine :)
