EDITING PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

March will be all about editing my novel. I love the editing process. I'm pretty sure Daft Punk does too. Why else would they make a song consisting almost entirely of editing verbs?

Technologic is my song of the month. Some of the words don't apply to me, but most do. I might write a few of them on my hands (like the guy in the video) as a reminder of what to do in the days ahead.

Take notes. They give good advice.

I have created cliff notes for those who don't have time to watch the video. Important directions are in bold, or red, or both.

Buy it, use it, break it, fix it,
Trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it,
Charge it, point it, zoom it, press it,
Snap it, work it, quick - erase it,
Write it, cut it, paste it, save it,
Load it, check it, quick - rewrite it,
Plug it, play it, burn it, rip it,
Drag and drop it, zip - unzip it,
Lock it, fill it, call it, find it,
View it, code it, jam - unlock it,
Surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it,
Cross it, crack it, switch - update it,
Name it, rate it, tune it, print it,
Scan it, send it, fax - rename it,
Touch it, bring it, Pay it, watch it,
Turn it, leave it, start - format it.

Technologic

(The REAL video for this song is a bit creepy. If you're a horror writer check it out.)

As you can see from all those verbs, I will be busy. I'm sorry if I slack off on blogging or commenting.
How's your writing coming along? What's your goal(s) for the month? Do you have a song that motivates you?

  4. Thanks for the highlights! They help. :-) Have fun editing! I'll be probably doing the same. Light editing though, before I let the thing sit for my final read-through.

  7. Love the video, it'd take me hours to be able to cordinate something like that. Writing is slow for me right now, I hope to have my WIP finished by May though :)

  8. I've started really pressing the plot on my newest WIP. I needed a break from Trueborn. Anyway, it's going great for me now!

  11. Love the vid! Good luck editing. It's my favorite part of the process, too. You have the clay in front of you, now you get to mold and shape it into something beautiful and uniquely your own.

This month, I will finish my new WIP.

  12. OMG I clicked the link for the actual video - you weren't kidding, it's like all my nightmares all rolled up into one lil dude... *shudders*

Good luck with your editing! I'm going to be working on Character Development - it's sorely needed. I think that will really help my story though.

We'll miss ya, but hope you get everything you want accomplished!!

  13. Yay I love Daft Punk! I think the orignal video for this song is excellent.
I am very excited because I've just had a new idea for a "project" - a sort of collection of short stories and poems. I can't wait to sink my teeth in!
Good luck with your editing. I hope March is prosperous for both of us. x

  14. Good luck with editing. It's not my favorite, but it is necessary. I'm trying to get back into the groove of writing this month, I've been bouncing all over the place between books. I've now annoyed myself enough to focus on one.

  18. That video is flipping awesomeness. Now I just have to hope that song doesn't get stuck in my head.

My goal for this month was to get a lot of writing in and finish up this puppy by the end of the month. So, naturally, I got slammed with a lot of stuff in my daytime life. Figures. But now I'm working on catching up.

  21. I love the editing process, too. Especially since I'm rough draft writing right now...

It's amazing what you learn about your characters when editing. And those plot twists and turns that suddenly come to you, and you wonder why you didn't think of them in the first place? :o)

    Have fun!!!

    Good luck with your edits!

  23. My motivating song is "Unwritten" by Natasha Beddingfield. (Did I spell her last name right, or do I need to edit that?)

  24. I love that video! Imagine messing up on the last line or something and having to do it over and over and over again... Good thing writers have a delete/backspace button!

Any idea where that bedspread with words on it can be bought? It's lovely!
