Storytellers of the World

Storytellers. Where would the world be without them?
No, seriously. In the rush to speed read through blogs today, take ten seconds to contemplate that question.
Where would the world be without storytellers?

Sad thought isn't it?

Now, if you have a couple more minutes, watch this video. I figured I'd watch one or two minutes then click away. But like any great storyteller, she made me stay until the end. She left me touched, moved, in awe, and teary-eyed. An amazing, hauntingly beautiful story being told in a very unique way.

Her name is Ksenya Simonova. She was on Ukraine's Got Talent. Her canvas is a pane of glass. She used volcanic and sea sand to create a masterpiece tale of those effected by the Great Patriotic War. Love, loss, hope, despair, and how those emotions change us and our lives. You may have recognized some of the music. The voice sound clips were from war news footage.

Proof that in any language, or time period, the beauty and fragility of the human soul is universal.

Here's to the storytellers. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.

  1. Absolutely stunning and humbling. Thank you for this. I really needed it today. When I feel like giving up on my storytelling I will remember this beautiful artist. When I don't want to listen to someone else's story, because I am tired and impatient and self-absorbed, I'll think of this video and remind myself that everyone has a story to tell. - G

  2. I shutter to think what it would be like with no story tellers. We'd all be forced to know only our own realities. I'm off to watch the video now.

  3. Oh my Goooooossshhh! That girl was unbelievable! I am so gld I watched the whole thing. thank you.

Without story tellers, artists poets, musicians, craftsman and woman the world would cease to be human... that is my very humble opinion. Without the desire to create beauty or appreciate it I think we give up apart of who we are. A big part. thank you for sharing this :)

  8. Thank you for posting this extraordinary artist. I still see the couple on the bench and the way she showed their closeness. You are right--there is a reason storytelling has been around forever. And a reason great storytellers touch us so deeply. I will think about the power of her images for a long time.

  14. The medium and language may be different, but we all understand loss and love and hope.

Another thing that strikes me is how willing hse is to cover up what she's just finished doing. There wasn't this need to preserve and hold onto the creative output. And that itself is so true to life.

You're right, what would the world be without storytellers?

  15. Wow. What talent. How did she draw some of that stuff so QUICKLY? It was almost as though she were waving her hand and things were appearing. I love watching art be created and this is very stirring.

It's also disturbing to me that reality TV has taken over the entire world. Ukraine's Got Talent? Does that not bother anyone else?
